No sabemos ver.

One must balance a writerly love of detail with the obsessive-compulsive relief in knowing that everything will eventually vanish  — a relief matched by the dread evoked by the very idea of such a thing happening. One then conjures up an ideal library, the abstraction of an archive somewhere, preserving written words, witnessed sights, preserving everything and awaiting an impossible reader.

Sometimes it’s like there’s a veil between you and death. That veil is pulled away when you lose someone near and dear to you. And then you see death ever so clearly for a brief instant. And then the veil drops back into place. And then you move on, and things get better. (In a better world.)

ijueperra is a variation of “hijo de puta”; but when combined with the word “vida”, it conveys a sense of defeat and frustration about life. Often intonated with a playful tint so to counteract the sullenness of the feeling.  (penny).

All the things that we regard as the most disembodied ideas, the things that seem to be more benevolent, are the expression of visceral desires. It’s a violent desire for domination for its own sake. A being wants to feel its own power. We feel powerful if we are inflicting our power over something. There is a fundamental cruelty in existence. The human being is essentially a being that wills,...

Each time that I write something, and it feels like I’m advancing into new territory, somewhere I haven’t been before, and this type of advance often demands certain gestures that can be taken as aggressive with regard to other thinkers or colleagues - I am not someone who is by nature polemical but it’s true that deconstructive gestures appear to destabilize or cause anxiety or...

After the best book, the most beautiful woman, or the finest desert you’ve ever seen, you tell yourself this is where the rest of your life begins.  In fact, something else happens: another book, another woman, another desert. And the rest of your life becomes life itself. It was merely the illusion of the end.  Even the hope of a definitive horizon, a horizon which would stamp what...

It is always becoming past. And we have the sensation, therefore, of our lives as something that is constantly flowing away from us. We are constantly losing time. And so we have a sense of urgency. Time is not to wasted. Time is money. And so because of the tyranny of this thing, we feel that we have a past, and we know who we are in terms of our past. Nobody can ever tell you who they are, they...

We amass so much drama in such a short period of time that crying becomes part of our daily routines. As for me, it just comes hand in hand with brushing my teeth, with every single toilet visit and with my morning coffee. I have been experiencing a number of breakdowns or let me misquote my therapist: I’m suffering from spiritual awakening symptoms.  J.B.A. - Tokyo.

We should write as we dream; we should even try and write, we should all do it for ourselves, it’s very healthy, because it’s the only place where we never lie. At night we don’t lie. Now if we think that our whole lives are built on lying – they are strange buildings – we should try and write as our dreams teach us; shamelessly, fearlessly, and by facing what is inside every human being – sheer...
